What is Hospice Care

Hospice care offers special services to provide comfort and support for people who are in the last stages of a terminal illness. The care offered through hospice programs provides medical services, emotional support, and spiritual resources when an illness no longer responds to cure-oriented treatments.

Hospice care also provides support to family members and helps them manage the emotional challenges of caring for a dying loved one.

The goal of hospice care is to improve the quality of a patient’s last days. Hospice care neither prolongs life nor hastens death. The focus of the program is to keep the patient comfortable by managing (i.e., relieving) pain and other symptoms.
